Yes especially on the validation part. I suspect that most people posting themselves are looking for their followers to tell them how fantastic they look, and when that starts to break down, they take the account private with a password.

Now I’m sitting here thinking (instead of working) about how a person could tell a story through Instagram or Tumblr. It would be a tragicomedy about a troubled rich teen with no outlet but their cell phone. This could be the next great entertainment medium.

While I agree this is a lot of people on instagram, I do like the community building aspect that you can’t really do with other social media platforms.

For instance, I follow a lot of hobby type stuff like mountain bike, tool and diy people that post quality content and who aren’t looking for validation but want to positively contribute to their interests. They are kinda like mini youtube channels that you can more easily find with the use of hashtags.

Unfortunately this is only a small portion of instagram, and again unfortunately, a lot of the car stuff on it falls under the negative side.
